We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury’s book zipped it’s way to Catie this week for several reasons:
1. When we last visited, I fumbled when I read it aloud to Catie as I tried to make the all-important noises that occur while the family is bear hunting. Now it comes in a new sound version, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Sound Book (Candlewick, ages 1-3). The sounds only add to the story’s rhythms and refrains. These should please both Catie and Zach.

2. When I asked Ben about sending this version, he said they’d just spent the morning playing “Going on an Underwear Hunt” and that kind of serendipity deserves a book celebration.

3. The book’s noises held Miga, our kitty, rapt. Especially the bear’s roar. Miga is best pleased by nature shows and sounds, so I sent the book along with the kitty seal of approval.

We love this book! Sebastian, going on two, repeatedly asks for this book to be read to him. It’s full of excitement, suspense, and action.
