Narrative Writing Residencies

Pink and Say Story Skeleton

A fifth grader’s Story Skeleton showing analysis of Patricia Polacco’s Pink and Say.

Susie Wilde has taken the unruly beast of fiction, cajoled and tamed it, by inventing a playful progression of writing activities that tap into participants’ intuitive gift for storytelling. All stories begin with children’s books that model literary elements from character study to description using the sense. By project’s end participants will have invented and developed a whimsical main character, organized a complete plot, developed scenes, conceived colorful language, and revised and edited several times. All activities reflect Common Core State Standards for Reading and Narrative Writing.

One to two week residencies range from $2,000 – $6,000, depending on time and expenses.
