The midwatch

THE MIDWATCH INSTITUTE FOR WAYWARD GIRLS written and illustrated by Judith Rossell, read by E.A. Castillo

I read-listened to Judith Rossell’s THE MIDWATCH INSTITUTE FOR WAYWARD GIRLS and it was a treat doing both. The book itself is a treat in both forms. First for the story itself. It begins in a way that makes you think it’s a typical orphan story and you sorrow for Maggie Fishbone and the two others who have arrived with her. Very quickly you learn that this is just a ruse for those who are taken in by first impressions. The initial meagerness quickly yields to welcoming cakes and learning that intriguing classes lead the girls to mystery solving and fighting bad guys in a 1920’s city. The author is just as talented at illustrating and the book is picked with wonderful pictures. E.A. Castillo reads the audio and she’s fabulous at the voices of villains and fulfilling the tensions of the story. Find a link to the book and audio in the purchase button below.
