Writer Sherine Hamdy and illustrator Myra El Mir collaborate on a stunning YA graphic novel, LANDING IN PLACE. We begin by viewing how Egyptian-American Anisa, caught between her father’s devotion to Egyptian beliefs and her mother’s assimilation desires. Her parents want her to follow a path to becoming a doctor like her sister, while Anisa loves the arts. She feels as lost in college where Muslims practice and urge her to do the same as she studies medicine that doesn’t fulfill her. A trip to Cairo, where she spends time with her grandfather, allows her to understand and explore her true feelings about her Muslim culture in a more informed environment.
