A MAN OF TWO FACES: A MEMOIR, A HISTORY, A MEMORIAL written and read by Viet Than Nguyen
Pulitzer-prize winning novelist Viet Than Nguyen reads his memoir A MAN OF TWO FACES: A MEMOIR, A HISTORY, A MEMORIAL and takes listeners on a complicated journey that serves to represent the many complexities of his growing up when his parents fled Vietnam when he was just four. Written in second person, he describes the immigrant journey of his parents and himself, the racism the family faces, the contradictions he faces in terms of what movies, television and comics tell him as opposed to the life he experiences. His path from becoming a professor, writer, husband and father is peppered with his understanding of colonialism, war, and hierarchical system of race. The weaving of political, historical, and personal are not always easy to follow, but well worth the listen. You can find out more about this book and audio in my bio.
