Bob the Vampire Snail

BOB THE VAMPIRE SNAIL written and illustrated by Andrea Zuill

C’mon a vampire snail? From the cover, I doubted but thankfully I read on because Andrea Zuill’s BOB THE VAMPIRE SNAIL is one of the funniest books I’ve read this year. Dramatic sounds and illustrations convey the transformation of Bob, a garden-variety snail, into a vampire snail. Beyond the extreme outlandish problem, one of the delights of this book is the conflict of voices. When the narrative voice tells us on the first page that “all snails are named Bob,” a small sensical bug warns us “I don’t know where the creator of this book gets their information, but none of this is true.” The quirky character faces problems with what to eat, adapting to his new gifts, and how to make friends. These are complimented and heightened by the continual notes of that truth-telling bug, nonfiction facts and an author with questionable but humorous opinions. This is the kind of misinformation and disinformation that is amusing. Find a link to this book in the purchase button below.
