Diamond Fever

DIAMOND FEVER! A TRUE CRIME STORY IN THE WILD WEST written by Steve Sheinkin, illustrated by Jon Chad, read by James Fouhey

Steve Sheinkin draws from history a little-remembered story in DIAMOND FEVER! A TRUE CRIME STORY IN THE WILD WEST. Sheinkin takes readers into the 1870’s and the bragging of two miners who declare that they’d found a lucrative diamond mine, pouring an entire bag of unpolished diamonds and rubies on the desk of a San Francisco financier to prove the point. Would he hold these stones overnight? While the gems were hidden, the story was not and soon there was a rush to place a claim on this mine. However, its location was undisclosed and sent people scurrying into “Indian territory,” with its expansive geographic possibilities. This history-mystery is full of layers of uncovering and as always Sheinken knows just how to maximize the drama, suspense and timing and he adds Old West voice and vernacular to further hook readers.  The tale becomes more rollicking because of spot illustrations and comics by Jon Chad. James Fouhey narrates the audio, and it seems he has as much fun reading the story as Sheinken had writing it!. You can find a link to the book in the purchase button below.
