Disappearing Act

DISAPPEARING ACT: A TRUE STORY by Jiordan Castle

Jiordan Castle’s DISAPPEARING ACT: A TRUE STORY is a YA coming-of-age memoir in verse that speaks to all ages. Though her family keeps up appearances of normalcy, 12-y-o Jiordan worries about her father’s moodiness, her parents’ disagreements and that’s before the FBI raids their house and soon after her father is imprisoned. Jiordan’s fretful anxiousness perfectly captures the moods of a confused child whose reality system is ripped away almost overnight. Wide variations in her prose and free verse poetry somehow reflect the ups, downs and all around of a child with an incarcerated parent who struggles to right herself.
