Yet another holiday with can celebrate with Sandra Boynton. The author-illustrator who knows what thrills kiddos and reading aloud parents brings us a lap-sized boardbook version of EEK! HALLOWEEN! There’s drama starting at the title which increases as does a flock of chickens whose fear grows when they see “strange things are happening.” Though this line seems to be written for the extreme pleasure of reading, so are the very conscious things that Boynton in her chicken-point of viewpoints to as strange—a pumpkin with flickering eyes, a mouse of enormous size. She balances the scary voice with the toddler-known elements of holiday fun and there’s rhyming and a satisfying ending to boot.
