FACING THE ENEMY: HOW A NAZI YOUTH CAMP IN AMERICA written by Barbara Krasner
Barbara Krasner’s FACING THE ENEMY: HOW A NAZI YOUTH CAMP IN AMERICA not only showed me a new facet of American history but did so with the richness of a novel well-written in verse. The alternating poems of the two main characters, one of Jewish and the other of German descent, show viewpoints contrary in mood and sentiment, the teens very different experiences in 1930’s New Jersey threaten their strong friendship and are a poignant heartbreaking views of hidden American undercurrents.
