HENRY UPSIDE DOWN written by Jenn Bailey, illustrated by Mika Song
Writer Jenn Bailey and illustrator Mika Song collaborate on their series fourth, HENRY UPSIDE DOWN. This beginning chapter book series features Henry, a uniquely winning neurodivergent personality and the books are full of inner feelings that are sweetly compassionate. When Henry is chosen to take care of the class garden he feels like “warm honey” but when he’s asked to choose someone to help him, “Henry couldn’t find his words. He knew who he wanted, but he did not want to upset anyone.” So he points to his best friend Katie. This sets us up to know how tricky relationships are for Henry and when Katie invites her new friend Ivy, the one she met in tumbling class and they demonstrate a handstand, Henry feels upside down. Imagery and warmth bridge difficult times and after five chapters have learned to work well together. You can find a link to this book in the purchase button below.
