LET US DESCEND written and read by Jesamyn Ward

I’m switching my Memoir Monday pattern to Not-Memoir Monday as I catch up on my adult “reading,” exploring new audiobooks. Jesamyn Ward’s LET US DESCEND has the balance a book like this needs—gorgeous lyricism and magical realism creating reading respite in the harrowing rendering of the story of enslaved Annis who struggles then rises into a world that removes her from her circles of hell. Descriptions and detailing are astounding especially when Ward reads and embeds them in narrative rhythms that are singularly hers. Book and audio available at the link below.
