 Lucy Cousins’ LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD AND OTHER STORIES retells three early tales—included in the collection are “The Three Little Pigs” and “The Enormous Turnip.” While her tellings and illustrations are simple and straight forward, Cousins does not veer away from the true endings. In the first two stories, the heroes fare well and restore order. The villains do not make out quite so well. So even within early tales you must be aware of the sensitive of children. Know that though this book is obviously for young children, only the last story, the turnip tale is a fun cumulative tale that will work for all young children.
