The Hat of Great Importance

THE HAT OF GREAT IMPORTANCE written by Patrick Ness illustrated by Tim Miller

New in paperback is THE HAT OF GREAT IMPORTANCE, the second in Patrick Ness’ Chronicles of a Lizard Nobody. It’s a series loved by my granddaughter who has high reading and comprehension levels, appreciates humor, has a passion for animals and is hard to find books that aren’t too sophisticated. This is story of Zeke and his two monitor lizard buddies who have recently integrated a school that’s encouraging species mixing. Not only are they useful in watching the halls, but they seem to be easily involved in adventures that are zany and clever. There are also a slew of puns (which the author puts down but uses in excess), comic illustrations by Tim Miller and a wryly disguised subplot that reflects many of the school issues. This begins when Zeke wonders about the rules of his friend Daniel wearing a cap and ends up dealing with a curious guidance counselor and who’s firing death rays at his house.  You can find out more about this book in the Purchase link below.
