THE ZEBRA’S GREAT ESCAPE, written by Katherine Rundell and illustrated by Sara Ogilvie
Katherine Rundell’s THE ZEBRA’S GREAT ESCAPE is a short novel that is heavily, vividly illustrated by Sara Ogilvie. Mink is a child who is not fond of sleep, but readily takes on adventure, especially after a bump on the head allows her to hear the voices of animals around her. And Gabriel, a baby zebra, has a very powerful voice as he pleas for help in rescuing his parents from Mr. Spit, an evil man who has captured and has dastard plans for them and a whole alphabet of other animals. Even though the book has some scarier moments, the plentiful bright illustrations and collaboration of well-imagined rescuers make this book accessible for an early novel reader. I’ve just listened to a bit of the audio read by Jamie Parker. He reads better than I do! Not only is he an incredible reader, there’s great soundscapes. Check it out in the purchase link below.
