As my mother lived on, exceeding expectations, I grew antsy sitting at hospice and decided to clean out her closets and drawers at Clarebridge. I gave away most things and wished I could take with me something that had her scent, something like the red sweater Ron wore after his father’s death when he was missing him. But my mother’s things had long ago taken on an institutional scent.
