Untangling: Rapidly Shifting Moods (Chapter 40)

Abrupt changes (rather like the chopped off end of this reel–sorry) characterized my mother’s rapidly shifting moods as she spent time in the geriatric psych ward. My emotions rose and fell with each call, my hopes for rapid healing faded as my fears for the future grew.One of the most difficult times during 11 years of caretaking my mother was learning that her extreme behavior meant she had to be removed from assisted living to a geriatric psych unit. While I hoped they’d get her meds right and she could return, it was during that dark time I knew for certain that I would not abandon, would never abandon her.
